About the play:
Going to a new country for most young men is a magical journey full of hope, promise and opportunity. But what about the children left behind? This semi-autobio-graphical tale about Timal, a young Fijian girl and the messages from overseas she receives from her distant father, is an enchanting story of love, loss, emigration and what it means to find one’s self.

About the writer/performer:
Veenesh Dubois grew up in a tin plantation shack in a village in Fiji. She came to Canada when she was 8 years old and was raised in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.  Ms. Dubois’ desire to perform started at an early age.  Her acting studies include voice and movement at Douglas College, BC and in Edmonton. She has appeared in over 30 commercials and TV spots.  While reflecting on her life at the age of 40, Veenesh returned to her village to reconnect with her roots. During this trip she wrote the first elements of Under the Mango Tree.  Five years later, the play is receiving excellent reviews all across Canada and drawing positive critical attention to the issues of emigration, arranged marriages, cultural differences and the common story of families and relationships.
