About the play:
The View is a “socio-paranormal environmental sex-farce set on an island somewhere in the Pacific Northwest”. Two old time islanders and extreme new age thinkers, Angel and Zorg live a spirit guided, libido driven life in a small home on an island. Zorg is a chain-saw artist, Angel a Tantric healer. Two newcomers from the city, Kenneth and Debra Bailey, knock on Angel and Zorg’s door in hopes of convincing them to cut down a tree in their yard, which will vastly improve Kenneth and Debra’s view. With this scenario in place, the play roars off to hit on almost every aspect of islander life: tree envy, tree removal, power outages, ferry issues, deer challenges ...
About the company:
Kingbaby Productions is an independent, professional theatre company based on Bowen Island. Kingbaby’s Artistic Directors David Cameron and Jackie Minns work as a creative team, writing, directing and performing original work, pre produced work and tour selected shows.
After their training experience on the professional stages in Toronto, they moved to Bowen Island, British Columbia and have since 1993 created many full-length dramatic and comedic plays, cabarets and sketch comedy for the community and have toured successfully in Vancouver, the lower mainland and Canada.
About the playwright:
David Cameron graduated from theatre at York University in 1984. He has played major roles in film and TV over the years and co-founded Kingbaby Productions with his wife Jackie in 1989. David wrote the story of Mad Mabel's Christmas when he was in grade seven in order to work off demerit points for bad behaviour. In 1998 he re-wrote the story into a one-act play that has seen five productions! David's other produced plays include The Sculpture, The Gizzard Trial and La Vita Grande which was awarded "best comedy" in the 2003 Fringe Festival. David has been the host of his live late night talk show, The Dave Cameronson Show and writer of many of Kingbaby's sketch comedies. Recently David saw a successful complete sell-out run of his new full-length Supernatural Sex Farce, The View. David is currently working its sequel, A Womb with a View.
In the cast: Jackie Minns as Angel, Graham Richie as Kenneth Bailey, David Cameron as Zorg, and Heather Hodson as Debrah Bailey
"The View is a very, very funny, energetic, well acted, and brilliantly written play that may renew the viewer’s sexual energy and leave them with a deep craving for venison."
-The Undercurrent weekly newspaper
"I never attend a Kingbaby performance without bringing spare underwear and an oxygen bottle: I know no better medicine for melancholy"
-Spider Robinson author/columnist Globe and Mail
